100% for Effort!

I noticed this sign (or signs) on a shop in King’s Lynn a while ago, and this week as I walked to work, I passed it again, but it being early, the shop was shut and not many folk were around. Luckily, I had my camera with me to record this – not the fact that that the entire door had been converted into a warning over a one inch step painted yellow, but mainly for the bottom sign. It made me smile.

Clearly, someone has spent a considerable amount of time on this…

  1. i love this. i have often wondered where the line is between rubbishly hand drawn and purposely hand drawn.

if a famous person made this it would be remarkable and different (well cubist), but obviously a regular joe did it, so its just crap.

i think i like it better that way though.

    1. So do I. I see new possibilities every time I look at it. It’s like one of those ‘magic eye’ images from ages ago…

  2. I love this! It’s hilarious! It’s ridiculous and beautiful at the same time! I get quite confused looking at some of the letterforms, especially the ‘N’.

This inspires me to look at kids drawings of type. If you got a little one to DRAW a word, not WRITE a word, what would they come up with?

How about getting uppercase and lowercase to give us a sample?!

  3. Ridiculous and beautiful! I remember once being described like that! But you are right.

I’ll ask U&lc to get the felt tips out! Watch this space…
